Church & Flea Market

I guess these 2 things don't always go together but they did for us today. We went to church this morning for the first time in mainland China. We haven't gone to church since Hong Kong. In Xian, nobody seemed to know that a church existed. The church we went to today is the one that President Bush went to when he visited Beijing last fall. It was a really good service (and so nice to go to church, esp. in China!). They had english translation (with head phones). It was great to see it packed out and people were sitting outside too (and they have 5 services each Sunday), and there were many other first timers.

On the way to the flea market (we tried out the subway), we met 2 really nice girls (Steph & Julia) that rescued us. Seems we need rescuing on a daily basis. It's actually kind of funny how you end up meeting people because you're more needy. We just plain need help here to get around (can't read "chicken scratch" - no offense intended). It's interesting how, in a way, it's not such a bad thing cause we get to meet some really nice people. They were Chinese or Taiwanese background and had grown up in the states and were now working/doing school related stuff here in Beijing. We had fun looking around the flea market and picked up some more keepsakes.

The temperature was wonderfully cool today. Last week we were in 1 of the the "furnaces" of China (it was SO hot!) so it was wonderful to wake up today to it being rather cool. It rained last night and today during the day off & on.
